New Parks for Ward 4

Parks generate economic, physical and social benefits, creating stronger community ties and help transform the City and the Ward. Here are just some* of the new park developments for neighbourhoods located within Ward 4:

McConachie

District Park  The detailed design is currently being completed and construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2014. This park is being cost shared between the City and developer (Walton International).

School/Park Site  The west school/park site is under assembly.

Pocket Park  There is a newly planned pocket park to the north that is currently being  assembled. The developer has expressed interest in developing this park with the neighbourhood however no formal agreements have materialized.

Natural Area  We have acquired the eastern portion of this natural area and continue to assemble the remainder of the natural area to the west.

 

Cy Becker

Urban Village Park  This site is currently under assembly.

Pocket Park 1  Park design is currently being reviewed and the park is proposed to be built by the developer. Construction timing will depend on the development schedule of the developer.

Pocket Park 2  Park design is currently being reviewed and the park is proposed to be built by the developer. Construction timing will depend on the development schedule of the developer.

Natural Area – This natural area is planned.

 

Hollick Kenyon

School/Park Site – The majority of this site has been constructed for sometime. The remaining portion has been delayed due to road closures and encroachments from the adjacent land owner (scrap yard). Community Standards is in the process of having the encroachments removed through court orders and the remaining construction will commence once construction budgets are approved.

 

Gonnan

District Park  This is a 16 hectare site that is planned for a Catholic High School and will be greater defined when the Gorman NSP is prepared.

Pocket Parks  Pocket Parks will be evaluated at the time the Gorman neighbourhood structure plan is prepared.

 

Clareview Town Centre

District Park  This site is under construction and is scheduled to open with the Recreation Centre.

 

Ebbers

Urban Village Park  This site is currently under assembly.

Pocket Park  This site is currently under assembly.

 

Fraser

Natural Area  The natural area is owned and is now being maintained by the City.

Pocket Park 2  This park is north of the Storm Water Management Facility and is currently under assembly.

 

Renaissance Estates (old Domtar lands)

Pocket Parks 1 & 2 – The City is currently planning for two (2) pocket parks in this new neighbourhood. Development timing will depend on the developers remediation of the area.

 

Aurum Industrial

Pocket Park  The City is in the process of planning for a pocket park adjacent the River Valley.
